Our mission is to address food insecurity in Sierra Leone by providing comprehensive agricultural education to rural villagers.

We do that by…

Growing the Grassroots.

Who Are the Grassroots?

The Grassroots are the villagers living in remote communities across Sierra Leone. They are the heart of this work—local farmers, families, and children building their futures through agriculture, education, and resilience.

🌟 Help Us Amplify Our Impact in Sierra Leone 🌟

We are raising money to support our efforts during our upcoming trip to Sierra Leone (April 30 - May 14). Our goal of $3,000 will go towards:

- Bags of rice for local schools, staff members, town leaders, Rural Health Care Initiative (RCHI) and the family of our dear late friend Saidu Marrah (1 bag of rice: $33)

- Biscuits for the children in Sembehun Tabema, the remote village where we built a school in 2024 (100 packs of cookies: $16)

- Taking our staff to a formal dinner ($13.50 / person)

- Board member/staff transportation between villages ($4-5 / person / day)

- GTGR branded apron for our chef ($17)

- We fly out of the coast so we try to stop at the beach for a day or two and bring a couple in-country staff members. This is often their first time seeing the ocean and their country's beautiful coastline. This has become one of our favorite traditions with our team members. (2 night stay / person: ~$100)

These are just a handful of examples of where your donations will go! If you have a specific intention, you can Venmo @growing-the-grassroots and write it in the description, or email  info@growingthegrassroots.org -We'd love to share videos/pictures of your direct impact with you.

Flagship Programs

School Feeding

We provide nutritious meals to nearby schools using food grown and harvested on our own farm. To date, we have donated over 3,000 meals, supporting children’s health, focus, and ability to learn.

School Field Trips

Students are brought from their schools to our farm each week to take part in a 16-week course covering agriculture and supplemental skills. The program began in late 2025 and is now actively underway.

Largest Primary School In Sierra Leone

In a remote village that had lost access to safe education for years, Growing The Grassroots built a primary school that opened in February 2024. Enrollment has since grown from just 70 students to over 200, restoring access to learning and helping education thrive once again.
